Delegates from Asia’s motorcycle industry arrived for the FAMI Meeting hosted by the MDPPA
The Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association (MDPPA) recently hosted the bi-annual Meeting of the Federation of Asian Motorcycle Industries (FAMI) last September 23 to 25, 2014 held at the Marriott Hotel in Pasay City. More than 90 industry representatives from Asia joined the simultaneous meetings of FAMI’s various committees such as the Technical, Research & Planning, and Management and its sub-committees.
These meetings aimed to address common issues to support the sound development of Asia’s two-wheeler business with conscious and active role in ensuring safety on the road and the environment. The event concluded on the 4th day with a social tour in Tagaytay City to foster camaraderie among the participants.
One of the highlights of the event is the execution of the FAMI Declaration on Motorcycle Road Safety, wherein Presidents of member associations attested their support by signing an agreement stating that all FAMI members’ activities will give priority on road safety in accordance to the following principles:
Promotion of the preservation and respect for life
Provision of road users’ education through training, seminars, dissemination of useful information and awareness campaigns
Development of road users’ proper behavior, attitude, skills and knowledge to mitigate risks
Strengthening members’ capability by exchange of information and best practices and sharing of resources
Collaboration with stakeholders on improvement of road safety conditions and environment
Improvement on product safety by technology development

The next FAMI Meeting is set in March 2015 and will be hosted by the Thai Automotive Industry Association (TAIA) in Thailand.
FAMI member associations include the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI), the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA), the Motorcycles and Assemblers and Distributors Association of Malaysia (MASAAM), the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association of the Philippines (MDPPA), the Thai Automotive Industry Association TAIA) and the Taiwan Transportation Vehicle Manufacturers Association (TVMA).
MDPPA, on the other hand, groups motorcycle manufacturers such as Honda Phils., Inc, Kawasaki Motors (Phils.) Corp., Suzuki Phil., Inc., Yamaha Motor Phils., Inc. and Kymco Phils., Inc.
